FC Bayern has probably decided against a permanent transfer from Manchester City's João Cancelo

FC Bayern have decided against signing João Cancelo. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano writes that FCB will not exercise the 70 million euro purchase option for the Portuguese international.

Instead, Cancelo will initially return to Manchester City from Munich after his loan expires this summer.

Cancelo spent the second half of the season on loan at FC Bayern, but did not always meet the high expectations. In the meantime, he only took on the role of noble joker.

According to Romano, Cancelo has no prospects at ManCity either, despite a contract that runs until 2027. The English champions are ready to sell the 29-year-old. Arsenal is interested and that also applies to FC Barcelona, which, however, has difficulties in handling such a transfer.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel publicly raved about Cancelo last week and stressed before the last game of the season against Cologne that the future of the defensive player had not yet been decided.

Cancelo, who can play both full-back positions, made 21 appearances for Bayern in the back series, in which he collected seven points and in the end was able to celebrate winning the German championship.

Cancelo grew up in Benfica’s youth and, after stints at FC Valencia and Inter Milan, ended up at Juventus in 2018 for €40m. City then signed him in 2019 for 65 million euros.
