Hasan Salihamidzic commented on the FC Bayern squad. “We wanted to increase the width of the squad. In recent years we’ve had to hear that the squad wasn’t that broad, but we didn’t have the financial means,” said the sports director DAZN.
“Of course” after numerous top-class commitments it is now “moderating this squad, but we have a good team of coaches, they will do it”. In view of the long season that Bayern are hoping for and the additional burden of the World Cup in winter, Munich will probably have to start the rotary machine more often.
Salihamidzic said: “If things go well, we have 50 games a year, we don’t have a squad that is too deep for that.” Bayern only want to get active on the transfer market if something unexpected happens: “There are still ten days to go. The way we are, we’re really good. We’ll see what happens, but we’re relaxed.”
In the 7-0 thrashing of VfL Bochum, coach Julian Nagelsmann was spoiled for choice despite the absences of Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies. New signing Matthijs de Ligt, Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman were in the starting XI for the first time this season. In addition to the youngsters Josip Stanisic and Gabriel Vidovic, Ryan Gravenberch, Serge Gnabry and Noussair Mazraoui also came on.
