FC Bayern – Joshua Kimmich on Sadio Mane: "Don't think he'll score 40 or 50 goals"

Joshua Kimmich commented on the Munich transfers as part of FC Bayern’s US tour and has praise for the newcomers, but the midfielder is also concerned about the departure of Robert Lewandowski.

“With Lewy (Robert Lewandowski, editor’s note) we lose a lot of goals, we have to catch that collectively,” said Kimmich in Washington. Kimmich does not expect newcomer Sadio Mane to replace the Pole directly: “Of course Sadio is a great player, but I don’t think he will score 40 or 50 goals, he brings other qualities with him.”

Kimmich sees “some attacking players who can score goals” in the FC Bayern squad. The international continues: “Things looked pretty good in training. I don’t want to praise too much now. Let’s see how the first games go.”

Above all, the expectations are high for Mane – also for Kimmich: “I think he’s hungry, that he wants to go ahead and win titles. He’s doing it quite well. In the beginning he was relatively calm, but he’s an open, easygoing guy. He’s always got something to say. I think he fits in well.”

Joshua Kimmich: “The 50 goals have to come from somewhere”

Kimmich also expects goals from newcomer Matthijs de Ligt: “He was already captain of Ajax when he was 19 because he has the ability to lead, to direct, to organize. He will certainly score one or two goals for us – which is also important after Lewy’s departure. The 50 goals have to come from somewhere. It’s good for us when we have someone in the back who’s good at tackling, who organizes and also scores goals.”

Kimmich also has praise for Ryan Gravenberch, who is only 20 years old: “He’s doing really well in training, great boy, very sure of the ball, physically good. It’s impressive that he’s already at such a high level at his age. He will help us a lot.”

Kimmich also spoke about the changed hierarchy at Bayern after the departure of Lewandowski, who was the third captain in Munich after Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller. A role that Kimmich now gets?

Kimmich says: “I haven’t even thought about it. I just noticed that I’ve been in the club for the third longest time with King (Kingsley Coman, editor’s note) and Ulle (Sven Ulreich). I would have had that seven years ago I didn’t think so either. I don’t even know if a third captain will be actively appointed.”
