FC Bayern - Julian Nagelsmann on the difficult search for a striker: Market "simply very grazed"

Coach Julian Nagelsmann from FC Bayern Munich has admitted that the current squad situation at the record champions without a classic center forward was not wanted. However, there was a lack of viable and affordable alternatives to replace Robert Lewandowski.

“There are few nines on the market that have the quality to improve us,” said Nagelsmann in the run-up to the Bundesliga game against VfB Stuttgart (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.). The debate about a missing successor for the Pole ended after two draws in the Bundesliga recently picked up speed again.

The market in this area is “simply very grazed,” he explained. Top strikers like Erling Haaland and Darwin Núñez changed clubs this summer, but were either unaffordable for Bayern or already off the market. Talks are said to have taken place with Sasa Kalajdzic from VfB Stuttgart, but no transfer took place.

Instead, a top-class offensive player came in Sadio Mané, but not a real center forward who could replace Lewandowski, who had moved to FC Barcelona. “If we had found a top, top nine for affordable money, we would probably have gone along with it anyway,” Nagelsmann continued. Nevertheless, he has “no problem playing without a classic nine,” the Bayern coach clarifies.
