Maria KeaneThe operated left knee is in a white support stocking, but Leon Goretzka can already smile again. After the “initial shock” he was doing “very well” again, wrote the international Instagram to a photo showing the convalescent in front of a picturesque Alpine backdrop with thumbs up.
Goretzka greeted from Innsbruck, where he had to undergo knee surgery on Monday. He will be out for six to eight weeks and, in addition to the trip to the USA with FC Bayern, will also miss the start of the season in the Bundesliga.
Nevertheless, he has “extremely big plans this season” with the German record champions and the national team, Goretzka wrote: “I’ll do everything I can to get back on the pitch as soon as possible and I’m in good spirits not to miss too much.” The operation was “successful”, confirmed the midfielder, who had been absent for months last season due to knee problems.
Despite the “difficult situation”, Manuel Neuer is “not worried” about him. Certainly it was “first a setback” for Goretzka, reported the DFB and Bayern captain after the Munich team landed in Washington, just at the beginning of the season with the World Cup in Qatar (November 21 to December 18). But Goretzka has “the right attitude” and is “a strong guy and strong character – he will come back strong”.
While Bayern start the Bundesliga season at Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt on August 5, the next international matches are not due until the end of September. Then the eleven of national coach Hansi Flick will meet Hungary at the end of the group phase of the Nations League in Leipzig and England in London.
