FC Bayern Munich after heart surgery initially without Kingsley Coman

Bayern Munich will have to do without the French international Kingsley Coman for the time being. According to coach Julian Nagelsmann, the winger had to undergo an operation on Thursday because of a “minor cardiac arrhythmia”. Coman should be back in team training in one and a half to two weeks.

Here you can find all of Julian Nagelsmann’s statements from the FC Bayern press conference.

“It sounds much more dramatic than it is,” said Nagelsmann about the procedure: “He is doing very well, he has minimal wound pain.” Coman recently complained about breathing problems or a short drop in performance. Investigations had found that his heart was sometimes activated to an additional beat. During the operation, one of the cords leading to the heart was therefore obliterated to prevent this blow.

“It’s not so blatant, several people have that,” said Nagelsmann calmly, “but it makes a difference whether my greatest effort is going to the refrigerator and getting a cool light beer – or whether I’m a competitive athlete.”

During the operation on the groin there was only a “manageable risk”, explained “Doctor Schiwago”, as Nagelsmann jokingly called himself. Coman is scheduled to start cardio training again on Tuesday.

In addition to Coman, Bayern are missing against newly promoted VfL Bochum on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky) and Corentin Tolisso. Nagelsmann said the French were still joking about their calves.
