FC Bayern Munich - Application to the AGM: fans against Qatar sponsorship

Bayern Munich can look forward to a lively annual general meeting on November 25th. A broader front of the fans of the German soccer record champions are mobilizing against the controversial sponsorship deal of their heart club with Qatar Airways. Such transactions are to be excluded in the future via an application received by the association on Friday.

“We want to take preventive measures to prevent a new deal,” said initiator Michael Ott SID. Qatar, the World Cup host in 2022, stands for massive human rights violations, and there are also serious allegations of corruption in sport, according to a message from the critical supporters. By working with a state-owned company, FC Bayern is actively helping “to divert attention from the grievances” and “to spread a modern, cosmopolitan image of the country”.

According to the will of the initiators, some of whom are familiar faces in the fan scene, the annual training camps in the Gulf state should remain untouched. This would offer “at least in theory the opportunity for critical communication – if you actually notice them,” it said.

FC Bayern has defended its commitment in the desert state many times. It was always said that changes could only be achieved through a dialogue with those in power on the ground.
