In an interview with SPOX and GOAL, Lothar Matthäus spoke about the championship fight in the Bundesliga, Bavaria’s coaching decision and a possible farewell to Thomas Müller. He also gave explosive information about Thomas Tuchel.
Lothar Matthäus is one of the leading experts in German football and does not shy away from discussions with Oliver Kahn, CEO of FC Bayern Munich, as he proved in the debate about the change of coach on Säbener Straße.
He played for the German record champions from 1984 to 1988 and 1992 to 2000. As a Bayern legend, Matthäus can hardly imagine Thomas Müller leaving the club. The 61-year-old spoke in an interview at a Bundesliga event SPOX and GOAL about a possible farewell to Müller, the change of coach and the title fight in the Bundesliga.
The 62-year-old also reveals that Thomas Tuchel was about to sign another top club and Bayern were therefore forced to make a quick decision.

FCB is still playing against Leipzig and they still want to qualify for the Champions League – not just for the money, but for the image in the world and in European football. BVB is playing away against Augsburg and then at home against Mainz, Bayern’s games are harder than BVB’s, everything could change on Saturday, they have a chance to play for the title until the last game, everyone in Germany is happy about it. “
… the change of coach at FC Bayern: “It was a big surprise for many, not only for me. Nagelsmann did a good job and won the Bundesliga, maybe he wasn’t so good in the Champions League in his first year. But this year he has against PSG, Inter, Barcelona all won twice, in the Bundesliga it wasn’t perfect but he wasn’t away from the trophy, I thought it was a joke at first but it wasn’t April 1. A lot of players were happy with him and have good talked about him when he left, Goretzka and Kimmich for example. Something must have happened for Bayern to make that decision.”

… the decision in favor of Tuchel: “Tuchel was about to move to Juventus. Bayern was nervous, Tuchel was free and Bayern didn’t believe in Nagelsmann 100 percent. They can’t sack him when he’s won three titles so they’ve decided to sack him now.”
… a possible departure of Thomas Müller: “I can’t believe Muller will leave. He’s Bayern, I can’t see him in a different shirt or in a different place. Muller is an ambassador, press officer for the team, he’s a fan favourite. I can’t see him at Real Madrid, he is a Bayern player and will end his career here, like Oliver Kahn or Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.Müller takes care of the game and the organization on the field and the coaches love that, not only because of his goals , similar to how it was with Franz Beckenbauer.”
