Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, currently on loan from FC Bayern to AS Monaco, has stressed that a return to Munich is not an option for him should Manuel Neuer extend his contract as expected. “If Manuel is still there, I think it won’t work anymore,” said Nübel during a media round, which was also attended SPOX and GOAL participated.
Then you have to “arrange with FC Bayern how we can find the best solution, but I think if Manu is still there, it makes no sense for me to come back.” There is currently no exchange, “the focus at Bayern is certainly on other players.” They will certainly sit down to see “what is the best solution for me and Bayern”.
Nübel is on loan to Monaco until the end of next season, while FC Bayern are trying to extend the contract with national goalkeeper Neuer beyond 2023. An early departure from France after this season is not an issue: “I didn’t bother with that at all. A lot would have to happen there.”
In 2020, the 25-year-old joined the record champions from FC Schalke 04, but has only played in four competitive games in his only season in Munich so far. It was indicated several times that a guarantee of use was anchored in Nübel’s contract, among other things, adviser Stefan Backs said SID: “It should be clear to everyone that Bayern Munich has also presented a coherent concept for this, otherwise Alex would not have accepted.”
Nevertheless, there was no getting past Neuer even in games that were comparatively insignificant in sporting terms, so he chose the path to the neighboring country: “For me there is no conflict, for me the focus is on Monaco. But of course: I get a glimpse of what’s going on in Munich happens. It’s a huge advantage that things are a bit quieter here. I enjoy that.”
Nübel: DFB? “No exchange and also no hope”
From Bayern’s point of view, extending Neuer’s contract is a “logical step” in order to keep top performers from the past decade. In principle, Nübel does not want to rule out another loan, but this is “difficult”. Instead, he was “basically for the fact that I generally take a different path”. He tends “to make the right decision”. Regarding a general return to Germany in the future, he said: “I can imagine coming back to the Bundesliga if the club isn’t called FC Bayern.”
There is currently no contact with the DFB either, which is why the chance of jumping on the World Cup train is relatively small: “There is no exchange and actually no hope. I’ve dealt with it 0.0 percent.” Nübel is not irritated by this, because: “We have great goalkeepers in Germany who all play at a high level.”
