FC Bayern Munich have signed 17-year-old goalkeeper talent Anthony Pavlesic from Australia. The captain of the Australian U17 national team with Croatian roots comes from the offspring of the Central Coast Mariners and is initially planned for the A youth team in Munich.
“Anthony completed a two-week trial with us in February and left a lasting impression,” said goalkeeper coordinator Tom Starke. “We then continued to follow him very closely and decided that the overall package was right. He’s a very positive guy who is already very mature for his age and has all the physical requirements.”
Pavlesic made three appearances for the Mariners reserve team in the second tier National Premier League last season. In addition, he was already in the squad of professionals who secured the championship title.
Only on Saturday did FC Bayern announce the extension of the contract with Max Schmitt, who was the same age, until 2026. Last year’s regular keeper in the B youth team recently became European champions with the German U17 national team.
“Max has regularly demonstrated his qualities in the past season and was instrumental in the success of the German national team at the U17 European Championship. We are excited about his further development and are very happy that he will continue to be in goal for our teams in the future will stand,” said Halil Altintop, sporting director at the FC Bayern Campus.
