FC Bayern in the squad analysis: Munich problem areas

The first test has been completed, the first competitive game two and a half weeks away: How is FC Bayern Munich doing in terms of personnel?

The squad analysis.

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic has been propagating for weeks that FC Bayern Munich is “well positioned” and is not planning any further transfers. After the 2: 3 defeat against 1. FC Köln, the new coach Julian Nagelsmann said: “If everyone stays healthy, the squad is sufficient. But we always have the duty to check everything and see what is and what is going on not. You have to react to the current situation. ”

In fact, there are some current issues, in fact the current squad has a few problem areas for a variety of reasons. Some players are injured, others are still on vacation at the European Championship, and there is general uncertainty in some positions.

FC Bayern Munich: arrivals and departures for the 2021/22 season

Players In Players Out
Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig, 42.5 million euros) David Alaba (Real Madrid, free transfer)
Omar Richards (Reading FC, free transfer) Jerome Boateng (destination unknown)
Christian Früchtl (1. FC Nürnberg, end of loan) Javi Martinez (Qatar SC, free transfer)
Chris Richards (TSG Hoffenheim, end of loan) Tiago Dantas (Benfica, end of loan)
Michael Cuisance (Olymp. Marseille, end of loan) Jann-Fiete Arp (Holstein Kiel, loan)
Joshua Zirkzee (Parma, loan end) Alexander Nübel (AS Monaco, loan)
Adrian Fein (Greuther Fürth, loan)

Although Bayern Munich actually has an oversupply of goalkeepers, the personnel situation in this position is currently tense. Of the six candidates for the professional and reserve team, only two are currently available: Sven Ulreich (32) and Ron-Thorben Hoffmann (22). Hoffmann was therefore even prohibited from participating with the German selection at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Manuel Neuer (35) is on vacation until July 31st, Christian Früchtl (21, broken collarbone), Lukas Schneller (19, foot injury) and Johannes Schenk (18, hand injury) will each be out for a few more weeks. Schenk was actually planned as the regular goalkeeper of the reserve team. In the first game of the season on Saturday (3-0 at FC Augsburg II) he was replaced by 18-year-old Jakob Mayer. Ulreich and Hoffmann were in the squad for the friendly against Cologne.

The tense personnel situation is particularly problematic for Hoffmann and Früchtl, who was recently unsuccessfully loaned to 1. FC Nürnberg. Since both behind Neuer and Ulreich will have little chance of action, the departure of at least one was expected. For the time being, FC Bayern will not give up either Früchtl or Hoffmann. If the personnel situation has relaxed towards the end of the transfer phase, this could change in the short term.
