FC Bayern Munich – SV Werder Bremen: The analysis

Compared to the narrow 3-2 victory at Hertha BSC, Nagelsmann made a forced change: Hernández replaced the injured Davies (torn muscle) at the back left. Among the guests, Burke replaced top scorer Füllkrug (bruised back).

Werder ran into Bayern in a 3-5-2 system in the center circle in their half and waited for quick switching actions. But the hosts had the first big chance – and used it coldly after winning the ball in the opposing half through Musiala (6th). However, Bremen did not deviate from their own match plan and immediately equalized (10th). The FCB defense did not get into a duel after a throw-in despite being outnumbered.

It went on rapidly: Choupo-Moting missed the lead again because he failed from the point at Pavlenka (17), before Bayern pressed the accelerator and decided the game within six minutes. Gnabry with a brace and Goretzka made it 4-1. Each was preceded by a pass that deciphered the high standing Werder defense. Bremen hardly got any pressure on the ball in this phase.

After the change of sides, the Munich team shifted down at least two gears, but this did not change their dominance against the broken Bremen team. Shortly before the end, Gnabry and Tel put the final point after great individual actions. The result could have been even better, but the concentration in front of the goal dropped, especially at the beginning of the second half.

FC Bayern Munich – SV Werder Bremen: The voices

Julian Nagelsmann (Bavarian coach): “We currently have a very good mix of quality and greed. The course of the game was difficult with the equalizer and the missed penalty. But then we remained very calm and very stable and then scored three more goals before the break. In the We missed a bit in the second half. All in all, we played a nice game for the fans. Big compliments to the team, they’re doing very well.”

Ole Werner (Bremen coach): “The result isn’t very pleasing. We knew how difficult the task was. We were actually good in the game and then lose the ball to make it 0-1. At 1-2 the ball falls at your feet after a set piece. The only thing , which annoys me now are the last two goals conceded. They weren’t needed anymore because we managed to calm down the game in the second half and Bayern slowed down a bit. But we also have to acknowledge that that FC Bayern is a different house number.”

The star of the game: Serge Gnabry (FC Bayern)

The player in the best form at FC Bayern? Currently hits at will. From the left, from the right, from the middle – Gnabry always causes danger. Important ball win before 1-0, great own goals. triple pack! Gnabry is in World Cup form!

The flop of the game: Christian Groß (Werder Bremen)

As a deep six, had the task of supporting the defense and intercepting balls – and that didn’t work at all with the three goals conceded in a very short time. In his defense it must be said that no Bremen player had access to the game in the six minutes. In addition, he lost more than half of his duels and was hardly involved in the build-up of the game. Amos Pieper and Milos Veljkovic also had a bad day.

The referee: Robert Hartmann

The referee was the center of attention early on in the game when he awarded FC Bayern a penalty after viewing the TV images. The decision was correct, even if there was not really a clear wrong decision that would justify an intervention by the video referee. At 2: 1 correct for not deciding offside. Otherwise little is required.
