FC Bayern Munich presented the new home jersey for the 2023/24 season on Wednesday morning. One detail was particularly striking: the controversial sponsorship of the airline Qatar Airways was missing on the sleeve.
The modernized Telekom advertising logo on the new home jersey, which was presented on Wednesday morning, is already known. It was to be expected that after the current training clothes and the special jersey, the new standard outfit would also be equipped with it. But the second advertising space on the shirt is surprising: the left shirt sleeve is empty.
On the current shirt, the controversial sponsor Qatar Airways is emblazoned on the left sleeve. However, there is nothing to be seen from the airline when the home kit for 2023/24 is presented. The shirts that can be purchased also have no sponsorship on their sleeves. The old kits are only available with Qatar Airways.
Michael Ott, one of the toughest critics of the Qatar sponsorship, called it “embarrassing” last year if Bayern desperately fought for an extension of the sponsorship. Because in December there were rumors that the airline would like to reduce the amount of sponsorship. Then it might not be lucrative enough.
However, FC Bayern’s former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge defended the sponsorship, saying even human rights organizations had advised them to continue.

Anyone who already wants to celebrate that FC Bayern Munich will no longer continue the controversial sponsorship should not rejoice too soon. However, an extension with Qatar Airways is by no means off the table. It just hasn’t been negotiated yet.
Since the current contract runs until June 30, the Bayern stars will probably wear the patch for the premiere of the new jersey on Saturday against RB Leipzig.
It is therefore quite possible that FC Bayern Munich will come to an agreement with the airline from the desert state and that the left sleeve of the shirt will again bear the Qatar Airways logo in the new season.
Until then, fans who want to buy the kit without the controversial sponsorship should act fast. In any case, the flocking of the jersey is free until the season change on June 30th.
