FC Bayern - "Next Level": Lewandowski is no longer hot for every goal

Striker star Robert Lewandowski even wants to put his goal quota behind for the success with Bayern Munich. “Five goals more or less don’t play a big role: My style of play is more important to me,” said the 33-year-old Pole in an interview with Sports picture: “I can bring other things to the field than goals and degrees alone. I want to put my teammates in the limelight, combine them. That is the next level for me.”

As an example, the Bundesliga top scorer brought up a scene from the 5-0 home win against Hertha BSC: “Let a pass through your legs so that Thomas hits behind me.” In the international match with Poland against Albania (4-1), “Lewa” recently shone with an outstanding assist.

“I don’t always have to be the one who ends up looking at my own goal statistics,” emphasized the Bayern professional: “I know that I benefit when the team plays well. And vice versa.” His hunger for goals is still there: “But don’t worry: goals are still very important in my head.” Lewandowski scored a brace in the convincing 3-0 opening win on Tuesday in the Champions League at FC Barcelona (56th and 85th).

Lewandowski, who wants to play at the highest level for “at least four more years”, also drew a positive conclusion from the first few months of working with the new Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann. “Julian has a concrete idea, a plan for his tactics. We talk a lot about the tactical subtleties and we train them really often,” he said: “It will get better on the pitch month after month, time is working for us.”

Lewandowski is also convinced of the players Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer, who also came from RB Leipzig. “Dayot can help us a lot, he gives us stability in the defensive line, is a very good boy with huge potential,” praised the attacker. Sabitzer is also “a very good player”. Both newcomers “made sense from my point of view and improve the quality,” said Lewandowski.
