FC Bayern – Rummenigge reprimands Nagelsmann: "One or the other decision worth discussing"

Former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge gave coach Julian Nagelsmann an overall positive testimony for his first season at Bayern Munich. However, Rummenigge also criticized it.

“Basically, he did a top job until December. In the second half of the season, I think there were some decisions worth discussing in terms of tactics or things in general,” said Rummenigge Picture live. “But basically he is a good, interesting coach who will hopefully stay at Bayern for a long time. Because when Bayern had a coach with a certain continuity, those were always successful years,” added the 66-year-old.

Rummenigge asked for patience in view of the fact that Nagelsmann “only” won the championship in his first year as FCB coach. “Sometimes FC Bayern isn’t just enough for the national title. You expect to at least reach the semi-finals in the Champions League. That was missed this year with the elimination against Villarreal. That was of course a disappointment. He will be have to put up with it. He will have to attack again next year. You have to give him the time,” said Rummenigge.

“I wish the club and him, of course, all the luck that he achieves the goals in the Champions League that he missed this year. You’re German champions and if you’re German champions, that’s still not a consolation prize,” added Rummenigge at sky.

Rummenigge also spoke about Robert Lewandowski’s future. “I don’t know if he will extend his contract,” said the former Bayern boss. Lewandowski’s contract runs until 2023, on Saturday after the 3-1 win against Borussia Dortmund the top scorer avoided a clear commitment to the club.

FC Bayern: Lewy departure? That’s what Rummenigge says

“I’m optimistic that he’ll still be there next year,” said Rummenigge. “Contract negotiations are taking place at a time when the Premier League and Paris Saint-Germain have been making large-scale transfers. It won’t be easy.” Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic agreed on Sunday Sky90 a Lewandowski departure this summer.

Rummenigge said with regard to a possible free transfer for Lewandowski in the summer of 2023: “He came on a free transfer in 2014. He would have been there for nine years if he were to leave on a free transfer. Robert has won all the titles with Bayern Munich that you can play in the club He can win football and made a big contribution to that. It was a top transfer. He exceeded expectations. If he stays, everyone will be happy.”

Rummenigge also commented on his successor Oliver Kahn, who rose to become CEO of the record champions last year picture: “Basically, I have a good, friendly and respectful relationship. Oliver has to go his own way, make his own decisions. And he will also make mistakes there. You also have to hand over the baton at some point. I don’t want to give him constant advice. He’ll have to experience it.”
