FC Bayern wanted Kasper Schmeichel as a replacement for Manuel Neuer

Former Manchester United keeper Peter Schmeichel confirmed on the sidelines of Bayern’s game at Paris Saint-Germain that FC Bayern had talked about a transfer in the winter transfer window with his son Kasper, who is currently between the posts for Nice.

“Now Yann Sommer is in goal here, but it could also have been my son,” said Schmeichel CBS Sports. “On the day that Sommer signed, they also spoke to my son because it took about ten days before they reached an agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach,” he added. “So I could have stood here and watched my son warm up. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen,” said the Dane.

Bayern’s regular keeper Manuel Neuer suffered a fracture of his lower leg while skiing on winter vacation. FCB was looking for a replacement and obviously spoke to several candidates. In the end, the Munich team opted for Gladbach’s Yann Sommer.

36-year-old Kasper Schmeichel only moved from Leicester City to OGC Nice in the summer. With the Foxes he sensationally became champion in 2016. He has made 89 caps for Denmark.
