FC Bayern’s new superstar could become Africa’s footballer of the year

Sadio Mane could very soon celebrate his first title as a Bayern player without having played a single game for the record champions. The Senegalese is considered the favorite for the African Footballer of the Year election.

Sadio Mane is a favorite in the election for Africa’s Footballer of the Year after his outstanding performances for Senegal’s national team at the Africa Cup. The winner will be announced at an event in Morocco on July 21st.

“It’s an individual title and there are many good players. We’ll see who gets the award. Of course, an award like that is motivating,” said Mane at his presentation at Bayern when asked about his chances.

For Bayern legend Lothar Matthäus there can only be one winner – Sadio Mane. “For me he is the best footballer in Africa, he qualified for the World Cup with Senegal, is the captain of this team, won the Africa Cup of Nations and converted the decisive penalty in the final,” explained the world footballer from 1990 .

Mane is also the most recent winner of the election, which was last suspended. He has strong competition in Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez, Sebastien Haller and Achraf Hakimi.
