FC Schalke 04 are loaning Liverpool's Sepp van den Berg as a replacement for Malick Thiaw

FC Schalke 04 has loaned Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg from top English club Liverpool. The 20-year-old central defender comes as a replacement for Malick Thiaw, who joined Italian champions AC Milan on Monday.

Van den Berg came to Liverpool from FC Zwolle in 2019, but has not yet played under team manager Jürgen Klopp. For the past year and a half he has been loaned out to second division club Preston North End.

“I was really happy when I heard that a traditional club like Schalke 04 was interested in me,” said van den Berg. Sports director Rouven Schröder was also satisfied: “We are very happy that Sepp chose us despite the tough competition. With him we have gained a fast central defender who is good at tackling and playing well.”
