Bayer 04 Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane assumes that Florian Wirtz will be out until 2023. The 19-year-old midfielder suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in March.
“If he gets well and can still train, he might get another assignment, but I don’t expect Florian until 2023,” said Seoane der dpa. Due to the World Cup in Qatar, the Bundesliga’s winter break begins in mid-November.
Leverkusen’s coach didn’t want to rule out Wirtz’ World Cup appearance: “It’s possible that he’ll be there at the end and then it’s the national coach’s decision.” According to his observations, the rehabilitation so far has been going well.
“In the beginning he was disappointed. And it’s clear that he needed some space after the operation,” said Seoane. “It pisses him off that he can’t be on the pitch. Watching the games is the worst thing. We have a good feeling about his personality and his soul.”
