RB Leipzig - 1. FC Köln 3: 1: Nkunku dream goal paves victory against harmless billy goats

1. FC Köln suffered a setback in the Bundesliga race for international places – and that of all times at Carnival. The team of trainer Steffen Baumgart did not get more than a meager 1:1 (0:0) at SpVgg Greuther Fürth in a hard-fought and varied game.

In front of 9200 spectators, Florian Kainz gave FC the lead in the 53rd minute. Sebastian Griesbeck equalized (69th). Trend-setting games against Hoffenheim, Leverkusen and Dortmund are now waiting for the Cologne team. After six home games without defeat, including three wins, Fürth is a little closer to safety.

First, the focus was on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Both teams gathered behind a blue and yellow placard that read “Stop War – We Against War” before kick-off. There was a minute’s silence in the Ronhof.

The game started in turmoil and fought with advantages in Fürth. The Franconians also had the first very good chance, but FC defender Luca Kilian saved from Branimir Hrgota in dire need.

Cologne’s Kainz is happy – Fürth is not shocked

The cloverleaf remained active, but after a quarter of an hour Cologne also broke their reserve. Jan Thielmann, Anthony Modeste, who was denied a header by Fürth keeper Andreas Linde, and Salih Özcan, who hit the bar with his heel, which is worth seeing, could have taken the lead in just a few seconds.

The guests took over more and more the command. Linde made a great save against Kainz (23′), Mark Uth narrowly missed (34′). Shortly before half-time, however, Fürth also sent a signal when FC keeper Marvin Schwäbe just cleared Timothy Tillmann.

After the change, Cologne got off to a good start thanks to Kainz. But the goal was lucky: A cross from the conspicuous offensive player found its way through friend and foe into the far corner.

Fürth was by no means shocked. Schwäbe was the center of attention a few times, as was the case with substitute Havard Nielsen’s big chance (57′). But he was powerless against Griesbeck’s powerful header after a corner from Gian-Luca Itter.
