Regardless of the temperature, managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke from Borussia Dortmund will also be wearing his lucky jumper in the season finale against FSV Mainz 05. “We played against Augsburg in the first half of the season, it was cold, I was wearing this sweater and then there was this spectacular 4: 3. Then I said: ‘I’ll leave it on until we have our first game in the Bundesliga lose ‘” said Watzke in the Sky interview.
In the Bundesliga, BVB has only lost at FC Bayern since then. In this game Watzke was missing but ill. “Everyone tells me: ‘Please with the sweater!’ It was tough in Augsburg, but I wore it and I will do the same against Mainz on Saturday, no matter how warm it is,” Watzke assured.
With a win on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky), the BVB series champion Bayern Munich would be knocked off the throne for the first time after ten titles. “We were at 25 points at Christmas and now we have around 70. After six to eight weeks I had the feeling that we would come close again, but you couldn’t have predicted that,” said Watzke about the race to catch up after the unfamiliar one Winter World Cup in Qatar.
