Borussia Dortmund’s managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke is confident of finding an adequate replacement if Erling Haaland leaves.
“The decisive thing is: It will continue. If Borussia Dortmund can do one thing, then it is to find the next one. A team always makes more than a player,” said the BVB boss 19:09 – the black and yellow talc. It is unclear whether Haaland will still play for BVB next season.
“First we have to know that we need a new Erling Haaland. At the end of the day, the truth is that we gave him a release clause – otherwise he would have gone to Manchester United. He has to make a decision, it will come eventually.” said Watzke. Watzke had recently denied an exit clause.
According to information from SPOX and GOAL, however, there is a “gentlemen’s agreement” between the two parties. Haaland can probably leave the club with an offer of 75 million euros. Manchester City is probably in pole position with the Norwegian striker. According to the Daily Mail the club already agrees with the Norwegian.
Karim Adeyemi is available as a possible Haaland replacement at BVB. “I think the player has more or less given the feeling that he wants to go to BVB. We have to manage that somehow,” said Watzke about the international. “If he came, we would try to get it without a release clause,” he said.
BVB: Schlotterbeck? “It’s not a secret”
Niklas Süle is a new signing, and Nico Schlotterbeck could also switch from SC Freiburg to BVB. “It’s no secret that we like him,” said Watzke.
In the long term, both could replace Mats Hummels in central defence. Hummels’ contract expires after the coming season. “If a player is well over 30, you have to see how long he’s still able to perform at his best. We’ll wait and see, you can’t predict it. Next season we’ll have the talks and look us straight in the eye,” explained the BVB boss.
