"Infinitely sad" Franz Beckenbauer on Uwe Seeler: "Servus and bye"

On the day of the funeral service for Uwe Seeler, Franz Beckenbauer once again said goodbye to the deceased football idol with moving words. “My dear Uwe, here in Bavaria we say Servus when someone leaves. With you in Hamburg, saying goodbye simply means goodbye,” Beckenbauer wrote in the Hamburger Abendblatt: “I would like to say Servus and goodbye to you, my wonderful friend. Because You go forever.”

Beckenbauer and his family are “infinitely sad” because of the loss. My deepest sympathy goes to your family, but especially to Ilka,” wrote Beckenbauer, who remembered the time together in football and after the career with Seeler. “Dear Uwe, this last greeting comes from the bottom of my heart: you will never be forgotten. Servus and bye,” wrote the “Kaiser”.

Seeler died on July 21 at the age of 85 and was buried last Thursday in the Hamburg-Ohlsdorf cemetery with close family. On Wednesday, the honorary captain of the German national soccer team will be commemorated with a funeral service in the Volksparkstadion. “I will have to watch the ceremony on TV because my health requires rest,” Beckenbauer wrote.
