Josip Stanisic regrets the dismissal of coach Julian Nagelsmann

Josip Stanisic regrets the dismissal of coach Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich. Surprisingly, the 35-year-old was replaced by Thomas Tuchel on Friday.

“I think it’s a shame because Nagelsmann was a coach who gave me the chance to show myself at the highest level,” said Stanisic in an interview SPOX and GOALS. “I’m sorry because we as a team are also responsible for that.”

Stanisic recently got a lot of playing time under Nagelsmann. In the 2-0 win in the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, he shone against the top-class PSG attack.

The 22-year-old right-back stressed that “I’ve always had a good relationship with him. I can’t say anything bad about that.” After his dismissal, Stanisic contacted Nagelsmann: “I wrote to him. Just a few messages, nothing spectacular.” He wishes him “all the luck in the world” for the future.

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic recently speculated that the “constellation between coach and team was no longer right”.

Stanisic wants to ‘be more selfish’

Stanisic is currently with the Croatian national team. After sitting on the bench in the 1-1 opening game against Wales in EURO qualifiers, he played through Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Turkey in Bursa.

“I’m satisfied with my performance,” said Stanisic, but also emphasized: “There are a few things that I can and want to improve. Sometimes I can be a little more selfish. I have to work on that.”

The right-back drew attention to himself with some offensive offenses against Turkey. Instead of closing the deal himself, he kept looking for someone next to him.
