FC Bayern: Nagelsmann gives an update to Sadio Mané

According to coach Julian Nagelsmann, Sadio Mané is “100% physically fit” again. The 30-year-old Senegalese celebrated his comeback against Union Berlin after a three-month break due to an injury to his fibula head. He came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute of the 2-1 win against VfB Stuttgart. “He worked very well, but needs rhythm. He played and trained little,” said Nagelsmann.

The coach has “not yet decided” whether Mané will be in the starting XI in the second leg of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. Nagelsmann will probably rely on the same starting eleven as in the victory in Stuttgart.

When asked about the ideal position for Mane, Nagelsmann said that the summer addition felt “a little more comfortable on the left wing, not so centrally”. After coming on as a substitute, he was part of a double at the top against Union and VfB.

Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sané: Effenberg is also critical

After Lothar Matthäus, Stefan Effenberg is a second former FC Bayern professional who has criticized Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sané. The two internationals came on as a substitute along with Mané in the 63rd minute of the 2-1 win against Stuttgart, but once again didn’t bother to make any more appearances.

Gnabry and Sané should “show an attitude like Müller”, Effenberg asked sports1. Müller was only on the bench in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain and was substituted off for tactical reasons in the early stages of the subsequent defeat by Borussia Mönchengladbach after Dayot Upamecano was sent off.

Müller was then in the starting eleven against Union Berlin and VfB Stuttgart, where he scored three points. According to Effenberg, Müller is “an absolute professional who you can rely on 100 percent. I wish that Gnabry and Sané cut a slice of it and do it better in the future”. Matthew had Gnabry and Sané with them sky previously referred to as a “non-mentality player”.
