In his search for new faces for the German national team, national coach Hansi Flick also has goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe from 1. FC Köln on his list. The 28-year-old keeper confirmed in the Picturethat he had received a call from national goalkeeping coach Andreas Kronenberg.
“There was contact,” said Schwäbe: “He said that I performed well and that I should continue like this.” The call spurs him on, he added. “It would be wonderful if it happened in the end. I will give everything for it.” He wanted to “try to build on last season and go one step further”.
It is still unclear whether Schwäbe will be part of the DFB squad at the start of the European Championship season in September. However, this also applies to the time when Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich) returns. The longtime number 1 was last represented by Marc-Andre ter Stegen from FC Barcelona.
Flick also called up Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp and Bernd Leno (FC Fulham) in June. Last September, Oliver Baumann from TSG Hoffenheim was another goalkeeper in the squad. Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega is also in focus.
