Kovac will probably become a coach in Wolfsburg

Niko Kovac is apparently the coach of VfL Wolfsburg. That reports the Wolfsburg General Newspaper citing the club’s board of directors. Accordingly, only the last details with the former coach of Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt are to be clarified.

According to information from Wolfsburg News the 50-year-old receives a contract until 2025, the obligation is to be officially announced on Friday. Kovac was at the top of Wolves’ list of candidates. At first it was unclear whether the Croatian wanted to return to the Bundesliga. He was said to prefer a move to the English Premier League.

Wolfsburg had surprisingly separated from Florian Kohfeldt after the last matchday last Sunday. The former Bremen coach only succeeded the hapless Mark van Bommel in October 2021.

At that time, VfL was ninth and played in the group stage of the Champions League. The disappointing season ended in twelfth place, the factory club had already said goodbye to the premier class before Christmas and also missed the move to the Europa League.

Kovac, who is considered a hard worker, had recently coached the French first division club AS Monaco. He won the cup with Frankfurt in 2018 and won the double with FC Bayern the following year. At the beginning of November 2019 he had to leave the German record champions.
