Champions League winners Manchester City are stepping up their efforts to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. Like transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported, the Croatia international is at the top of the Skyblues list.
Coach Pep Guardiola is therefore a big fan of the central defender, who can be used on the defensive but also on the left flank. However, the negotiations are proving to be difficult, as Leipzig is apparently demanding a record fee for the 21-year-old.
So far, Harry Maguire has been the most expensive defender in the world with a transfer fee of around 87 million euros – a sum that Gvardiol is said to significantly exceed. Especially since the Cityzens are not the only club that would like to sign Gvardiol.
Gvardiol is under contract with the Bulls until 2027, so RB Leipzig is in a comfortable negotiating position.
Last season, Gvardiol appeared in 41 competitive games for coach Marco Rose’s team, scoring three goals.
