Markus Babbel criticized Manuel Neuer. At the same time, the 1996 European champion assumes that the FC Bayern goalkeeper will come back stronger than before.
Neuer’s explosive interview after the dismissal of goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic was “not okay”, Babbel told the Schweizer Zeitung View: “That’s why he got hit on the bib from all sides.”
“Nevertheless, I’m assuming that Neuer will come back stronger than before because he’s really pissed off. It’s all getting on his nerves and I think he really wants to show a lot of people that he’s still the best.” , said the 50-year-old.
Babbel suspects Neuer himself knows that he made a mistake: “Regardless of the interview, he let the team down with his skiing accident – negligent in my eyes.”
Whether the FCB keeper, whose contract expires in Munich in 2024, still sees his future with the German record champions, he must now clarify for himself. “Does Neuer still want to be in goal for FC Bayern? Or is he looking abroad and in another league to broaden his horizons,” asked Babbel.
Babbel wore the FC Bayern jersey from 1981 to 2000. Most recently, the native of Munich worked as a coach at the Australian club Western Sydney Wanderers until 2020.
