Marcel Sabitzer's move to Manchester United is official

A few minutes before the end of Deadline Day, FC Bayern Munich and Manchester United agreed to loan midfielder Marcel Sabitzer until the end of the season.

Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidžić said in a press release: “Manchester United expressed an interest in Marcel Sabitzer at the beginning of the week. Marcel explained to us that he would like more playing time and is convinced he can get it at United. After consulting our coach Julian Nagelsmann, we agreed Wish granted and Marcel is loaned to Manchester United until June 30. We wish him every success for the second half of the season with United.”

Sabitzer switched from RB Leipzig to the German record champions in the summer of 2021. He has played 54 games for FC Bayern Munich so far, but has never been able to establish himself as an undisputed top performer. The Austrian had his best phase in Munich earlier this season when he played the sober midfield sweeper alongside Joshua Kimmich.

Sabitzer is under contract with FC Bayern until the summer of 2025.

Sabitzer is Bayern’s only departure in the transfer period that has now expired. The three additions of full-back Daley Blind (free transfer), goalkeeper Yann Sommer (from Borussia Mönchengladbach, at least 8 million euros) and the equally surprising and spectacular loan of full-back João Cancelo from Manchester City.
