Marco Reus gives up the captaincy at Borussia Dortmund after five years.
“It’s very important to me to tell you personally,” said Reus in a video message he sent to BVB supporters: “I had a lot of time to think on vacation and I decided to pass on the captain’s armband.”
He wore the armband of the runners-up “with pride and with great honor” and hopes that coach Edin Terzic and sports director Sebastian Kehl “find a very good successor”.
According to the club, he first communicated the decision to Terzic, Kehl and his team on Wednesday. The club initially gave no information about the successor. Reus (34) extended his expiring contract in Dortmund by a year at the end of April.
