Max Kruse shows a damaged foot and takes refuge in sarcasm

Max Kruse added to the debate about a penalty denied in his VfL Wolfsburg game at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The striker shared a photo of his injured ankle on Instagram – along with a sarcastic comment.

“It wasn’t a clear penalty,” Kruse commented in his Instagram story on a photo of his foot with a good portion of irony. His ankle was visibly swollen and covered with abrasions.

In the 2-2 in the basement duel between Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL, Gladbach’s Manu Kone Kruse stepped on his foot in the penalty area when the score was 2-1 for the wolves. Kruse didn’t let himself fall, initially continued his run, but then fell to the ground two steps later. Referee Tobias Reichel did not award a penalty and the video assistant also remained silent. Referee Reichel apparently did not rate the contact as the cause of the fall.

“I wonder what they’re doing in the basement,” Kruse said immediately after the final whistle sky in the direction of the video referees in the Cologne basement. “It can’t be the fair play idea that I’m falling right there. I don’t know how many people are sitting there, but they weren’t very competent there.”

VfL trainer Florian Kohfeldt shared his attacker’s view. “There is no discussion at all, Max is absolutely right,” said Kohfeldt, speaking of a “crystal clear penalty”.
