Max Kruse wins "Beat the Star"

Max Kruse has them Pro7Won game show “Beat the Star” against moderator Steven Gätjen. However, the Union Berlin star made a fool of himself when it came to football issues.

In the second competition of the evening, the two candidates should nominate famous goal scorers in historic World Cup and European Championship tournaments. Kruse lost out 5:7 – partly because he didn’t know the names of several clippers.

The Union striker owed the answers to Oliver Bierhoff, who scored the golden goal in Germany’s 1996 European Championship triumph, and Gerd Müller, who scored the decisive goal in the 2-1 victory in the 1974 World Cup final against the Netherlands. Kruse’s explanation: “I wasn’t there yet.”

He also misnamed the match winner in Greece’s surprise European Championship triumph in 2004. Instead of the actual scorer Angelos Charisteas, Kruse named ex-Frankfurt Theofanis Gekas.

As the show progressed, it kept going back and forth. After game twelve, both candidates had won six games each – and each had 39 points in their account. Ultimately, however, Kruse narrowly prevailed. Late on Sunday night he was the winner after the 15th game and won a sum of 100,000 euros.
