Move to FC Barcelona? Union Berlin's Rani Khedira comments on rumours

Union Berlin midfielder Rani Khedira has downplayed rumors of interest from FC Barcelona. “I didn’t have a Spanish number on my phone. It’s a rumor at the moment but I’m not looking into it because I play at a really great club,” said the 28-year-old DAZN.

The Spanish portal Football Total Khedira was last associated with the Blaugrana, the Catalans are assuming Sergio Busquets will leave and are therefore looking for a successor in defensive midfield.

Khedira himself stressed that he felt “very, very comfortable” in Berlin. “I have agreed with my other brother, who also advises me, that we will clarify everything during the World Cup break and listen to everything,” he concluded.

Union managing director Oliver Ruhnert was also asked about Barça’s rumored interest in Khedira, and he found talks with the top Spanish club interesting. “It’s actually a financially weak club, but apparently also a financially strong one. I would really like to hear what FC Barcelona would want from 1. FC Union Berlin,” said the 50-year-old picture.

Khedira is an absolute top performer at the capital club and still has a contract there until summer 2023. The brother of Rio world champion Sami Khedira is said to have made it into Hansi Flick’s provisional squad for the World Cup in Qatar with strong performances.
