Top scorer Niclas Füllkrug (30) from Werder Bremen is also out for the game against Bayern Munich (Saturday, 6.30 p.m.) because of his calf problems.
“We’re trying to build him up carefully for Leipzig (next game, ed.),” said coach Ole Werner, who celebrated his 35th birthday on Thursday. Füllkrug, who leads the Bundesliga top scorer list with 16 goals, has already missed the last three games. There is still “a question mark” behind another attacker: Eren Dinkci (foot problems).
Werder have lost the last 13 home games against Bayern, the promoted team has been waiting for a win against the record champions for 26 Bundesliga games – and is now hoping for an end to the negative series. “We will need the opponent’s luck and a certain inefficiency. But even if that happens, we still have a lot to do,” said Werner: “And that’s what we’re concentrating on.”
