BVB, News: Nico Schulz makes comeback in U23
Nico Schulz (29) has not yet been used by coach Edin Terzic with the professionals this season. In the current international break, however, the left-back was back on the pitch for the first time: Schulz played a total of 60 minutes for the U23s in the friendly against the Go Ahead Eagles Deventer – but the game was lost 4-2.
It is unclear whether Schulz will become an option for Terzic again. Noisy Ruhr news should be decided shortly.
The club no longer relies on the 12-time international and would have preferred to give him up in the summer, but there was no change. Schulz still has a contract in Dortmund until 2023.
BVB, News: New assistant coach for the U23
Borussia Dortmund has announced the commitment of Julian Koch as assistant coach of the U23. The ex-professional takes over the previously vacant position and becomes the right hand of head coach Christian Preusser.
As a player, Koch had gone through the youth teams of BVB and played a total of 54 times for the second team, and it was enough for two appearances in the Bundesliga. In 2019 he ended his active career. “I’m really happy to be back home and to be able to work successfully on the pitch,” he said.
Thomas Delaney left BVB in the summer of 2021 after three years for Sevilla FC. Now the two teams meet in the group stage of the Champions League (5th and 11th October). “I only have good memories of the city and the stadium,” said the Dane in an interview with the club’s media.
However, he hates playing against young Dortmund star Jude Bellingham: “He has that greed you need to play at the highest level.” And: “He’s annoying. He goes to the limit all the time, tries to provoke and upset you.”
Bellingham is a “team player who does everything for his team and also crosses red lines. As an opponent, I think he’s very, very annoying,” explained Delaney.
