Norway's king causes laughter before the World Cup qualifying duel with Oranje

The exciting duel between the Netherlands and Norway for a ticket for the soccer World Cup in Qatar 2022 is even occupying the royal families of both nations. The Norwegian King Harald V took up the topic at the gala dinner in Oslo with the Dutch royal couple Willem-Alexander and Maxima on Tuesday – and allowed himself a name joke with Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

During the first leg in September (1-1), many Oranje fans would have believed that the Norwegian appendix had “Holland!” called, the monarch said in his speech in English. “Indeed they shouted: Haaland!” TV pictures show Queen Maxima bursting out laughing.

“To make it clear,” Harald V. continued after a break from art: “I wish the Netherlands the best of luck for next week’s game.” Then, addressing Maxima and Willem-Alexander, he added: “But not too much luck.”

Norway are hoping for their first World Cup participation since 1998. In the last game of Group G, there will be a “final” on Tuesday in Rotterdam without the injured Haaland against league leaders Netherlands, who are two points ahead of the final two match days.

In third place, Turkey with national coach Stefan Kuntz still has a small chance of a direct Qatar ticket.
