Officially! Marco Reus extends his contract with Borussia Dortmund

Captain Marco Reus will remain leaders Borussia Dortmund for at least another year. The 33-year-old international has extended his contract with the Bundesliga club, which expires at the end of this season, until 2024. BVB announced this on Thursday.

“We want to be German champions, we need every single Borussia player to do that,” said Reus, “but beyond that, I still have a great desire to do my best for the club, where I’ve spent more than half my life. ” He “always said that I would prefer not to play for any other club in my career than for BVB.”

For Sebastian Kehl, the importance of the veteran is still great. “As a player and identification figure, Marco is extremely important for this club,” said the sporting director. The contract talks were “always positive, trusting and goal-oriented”.

Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke ennobled Reus as a “deserving player in our club”. In the future he should “use all his experience to promote the development of the younger generation within our squad”.

Dortmund did not provide any further information on the content of the contract. According to media reports, with the new working paper, Reus should only collect seven instead of around twelve million euros as a fixed salary. Reus was recently no longer an untouchable regular player at BVB.

Reus, born in Dortmund, played for Borussia when he was young and returned to the club from Mönchengladbach in 2012. His greatest successes so far have been the DFB Cup victories in 2017 and 2021.
