Oliver Kahn from FC Bayern Munich worried after the billion-euro deal collapsed: "Damage to all clubs"

Bayern Munich’s CEO Oliver Kahn is concerned about the future of the Bundesliga after the billion-euro deal with the DFL collapsed.

“Now there is a risk that the gap to England and Spain will continue to grow. And that would be harmful for all clubs, the bigger and the smaller,” Kahn explained to the German press agency (DPA).

With the investor entry, the first and second Bundesliga should be strengthened, added the Bayern boss: “With this model, the larger clubs would have shown a lot of solidarity with the smaller ones.”

On Wednesday, however, only 20 of the 36 professional clubs spoke out in favor of the controversial DFL deal worth billions. Four votes were missing for the necessary two-thirds majority. In the past few days, several fan associations, including “Club No. 12” from FC Bayern, had clearly positioned themselves against it.

In addition to Kahn, the head of the supervisory board and BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke also predicted a bleak future for German professional football.
