Oliver Kahn reacts calmly to rumors about imminent replacement

CEO Oliver Kahn is demonstratively relaxed before the upcoming supervisory board meeting at FC Bayern Munich in May.

“I concentrate 100 percent on my work. And that means now: How can we become German champions? Everything else doesn’t interest me,” said Kahn on Friday in an interview Munich Mercury/tz.

Kahn tried to downplay the importance of the committee meeting. “The regular meeting of the supervisory board will take place on May 22, like every year at the end of the season,” said the former international goalkeeper. This time, it is speculated, it is also about Kahn’s future. His contract runs until the end of 2024.

Kahn was now unimpressed. “FC Bayern isn’t just any job for me, it’s a matter close to my heart,” he said: “That doesn’t just apply to moments when the sun is shining. I’m fighting for FC Bayern. I’ve done that as a goalkeeper for 14 years I’m doing it now and I will continue to do it in the future.”

Despite the sporting crisis in Munich, he is still convinced that he can win the German championship. “Of course we want to be German champions again this year – and we will still do it. There have always been difficult situations in the past, from which FC Bayern have always escaped and emerged stronger,” said the 53-year-old.

Kahn sees the fact that Honorary President Uli Hoeneß showed up on the club grounds on Wednesday and spoke to coach Thomas Tuchel as an important sign: “It was a strong gesture from Uli to show his fist on the training ground. A clear gesture: We show it all.”
