Maria KeaneAccording to his own statements, the well-known player consultant Volker Struth failed to place Thomas Müller in England in 2022.
Speaking on the ‘Phrasen Mäher’ podcast, Struth said: ‘I actually called him, yes. That was a year ago. We are well connected internationally and Thomas has always been a very watched player, especially in England. I have him asked if that could be an issue for him. He then told me that firstly it was not an issue and secondly that he already had an advisor.”
Struth added: “It could have been that it was appealing to him – but it wasn’t like that.” However, Struth assured: “He was who he is: authentic and honest. And I wouldn’t be me if I hadn’t tried.”
In addition, Struth also commented on the sporting status of German football in an international comparison and did not see a rosy future for the Bundesliga.
“I know I’m making myself unpopular now, but if we don’t adapt to developments on the international market and at least deal with the 50+1 rule again, we’ll have to get used to the fact that even a club like Bayern Munich doesn’t play in the top 8 in Europe in the long run.”
