Successful return to the old place of work: coach Julian Nagelsmann celebrated a 4-1 (1-0) win at his ex-club RB Leipzig on matchday four of the Bundesliga with FC Bayern Munich. FC Bayern are now in second place with ten points behind VfL Wolfsburg, Leipzig is 13th with just three points.

Robert Lewandowski (12th, hand penalty), substitute Jamal Musiala (47th) and Leroy Sane (54th) gave Bayern a 3-0 lead, Konrad Laimer shortened to 1: 3 with a remarkable long-range shot (58th) .). Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (90th + 1) set the final points to make it 4-1.

Referee Deniz Aytekin caused discussions. After a handball by Thomas Müller in the 2nd minute, he denied Leipzig a hand penalty and refrained from studying the repetitions. But that’s exactly what he did seven minutes later and ultimately punished a handball by Kevin Kampl with a penalty for Bayern.

He also rightly refused recognition for an Andre Silva goal because of an offside position (47th). Leipzig fans then sang: “You have no chance without a referee.”

When he returned to his old place of work, Nagelsmann was whistled by a number of Leipzig fans even before the game. In the first half they followed up with a banner on which Joshua Kimmich, another ex-Leipzig resident, was attacked. In the guest block there were arguments between stewards and fans, the police had to intervene at times.

RB Leipzig versus Bayern Munich: The analysis

Somewhat surprisingly, Nagelsmann ordered defenders Hernandez and Pavard, who had been injured in previous competitive games, directly into the starting line-up. Tactically, he directed his team in a mixed form of 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-3. The nominal left-back Davies acted extremely high in possession and allowed the left winger Sane to regularly push into the center. Gnabry, on the other hand, was much more challenged defensively because of the asymmetrical alignment.

Sane started instead of the last convincing Musiala and built on his strong form from the German national team, especially in the second half. Before the break it was only really dangerous through Lewandowski. In the 12th he scored 1-0 with a justified foul penalty.

Leipzig – with five changes compared to the 0: 1 against Wolfsburg – developed a surprising amount of possession, but hardly converted it into dangerous penalty area situations. This was also due to the very concentrated defensive performance of the Munich central defenders Upamecano and Hernandez, who convinced in their first appearance together.

Shortly before the break, Nagelsmann brought in for the ailing Gnabry Musiala, who quickly increased to 2-0 after the restart (47th). Leipzig immediately moved up further, which gave FC Bayern some good counter-chances. Lewandowski missed twice (49th and 53rd) before Sane made it 3-0 (54th).

It continued turbulent: Laimer scored with a remarkable long-range shot to 1: 3 (58th), a minute later the ex-Leipzig Sabitzer was greeted with a loud whistle when he was substituted on. The Leipzig team then pushed for the connection goal at times, but remained too inconsistent. Instead, Choupo-Moting made it 4-1 (90th + 1).

The data of the game RB Leipzig against FC Bayern Munich

  • Gates: 0: 1 Lewandowski (12th, hand penalty), 0: 2 Musiala (47th), 0: 3 Sane (54th), 1: 3 Laimer (58th), 1: 4 Choupo-Moting (90th + 1)

The star of the game: Jamal Musiala (FC Bayern)

Musiala came into play at halftime and was directly involved in two goals. First he converted precisely to 2-0, then he crossed perfectly to Sane, who marked the 3-0.

The flop of the game: Dominik Szoboszlai (RB Leipzig)

Szoboszlai hardly made any accents on the left wing or on his occasional excursions into the center. He was not directly involved in a single shot on goal and attracted a few weak standards.

The referee: Deniz Aytekin

Aytekin did not look confident. Müller’s handball in the 2nd minute he did not punish with a penalty and incomprehensibly refrained from looking at the scene on the edge of the field. It was completely different seven minutes later, when he rightly punished Kampl’s handball with a penalty, according to the repetitions. In the 36th Aytekin Simakan should have shown yellow for a foul on Goretzka. He rightly refused to acknowledge Silva’s supposed goal to make it 1: 2 because of a very narrow offside position (47th).
