The promotion hero says goodbye: Second division record scorer Simon Terodde will not extend his expiring contract with FC Schalke 04.
“In the past few weeks, there has been a lot of media speculation about my future. It’s a topic that neither the club nor I need in these crucial weeks. That’s why I’d like to say now that my time at Schalke will definitely come to an end in the summer.” , the 35-year-old announced on Wednesday.
“My time here was incredibly emotional, characterized by an incredible number of intense moments that I will always remember,” continued the striker: “Now I want to write my last chapter at Schalke with my teammates – and ultimately me too say goodbye to the successful relegation.”
Terodde made a significant contribution to the Royal Blues’ immediate return to the Bundesliga with 30 goals in the past second division season. On November 20, 2021, he overtook Dieter Schatzschneider in the all-time list of top scorers in the 2nd division, which he now leads with 172 goals. In the Bundesliga, however, Terodde did not get the chance he wanted: So far there have only been three goals this season, in the second half of the season he lost his regular place to Swiss new signing Michael Frey.
