Maria KeaneSports director Hasan Salihamidzic from FC Bayern Munich relies on head coach Julian Nagelsmann for talent development.
“Julian has proven in his previous positions that he can make players better. That was an important criterion for us,” said the ex-professional in an interview with the Munich media group Mercury/tz. This is one of the reasons why the coach received a five-year contract with FC Bayern.
“Julian is a head coach who is aware that we always have to develop good players from the campus and introduce them to the pros,” said Salihamidzic. “He gets involved here, communicates with the coaches of the amateurs and U19 Under-17 teams. Player development takes time. If you will, we factored that into his contract length as well.”
Salihamidzic outlines the goals for youth training and talent scouting as follows: “We need more street football and less FIFA Playstation.”
The training in the centers of the Bundesliga clubs is very good, “nevertheless we have to keep getting better and we have to do everything in Germany to ensure that the boys and girls play football in their free time and don’t spend too much time in the digital media.” . Only then can a sufficient number of talents be sent to the boarding schools of the clubs and bases of the associations.
“Today, football competes with many other leisure activities. It is an important task for all of us – I mean DFB, DFL, the clubs – to ensure that football remains or becomes attractive for children and young people,” said Salihamidzic .
