SC Freiburg extends contract with coach Christian Streich

The architects of the Freiburg success story remain on board: SC Freiburg has again extended the contracts with its long-standing head coach Christian Streich and his coaching team.

As usual, however, the Breisgauer did not announce details of the running times on Tuesday. Streich is the longest-serving coach in the Bundesliga, the 57-year-old has worked for the sports club since 1995 and has been the Freiburg head coach since December 2011.

“It’s nice that we’re still happy to come to the coaching office and maintain an open and honest exchange,” said Streich: “The constellation here is special and it’s a pleasure for me to continue working at this club together with my coaching colleagues can.” In addition to Streich, his assistants Patrick Baier, Florian Bruns and Julian Schuster also extended their contracts.

Streich is the record coach of the Breisgau team in the Bundesliga with 347 games, and he has already coached the Freiburg professional team in 430 competitive games. Last season he led SC to the final of the DFB Cup and the Europa League, where Freiburg will play the round of 16 second leg against Italian record champions Juventus Turin on Thursday (6:45 p.m.) (first leg 0-1).

In the Bundesliga, Freiburg, currently in fifth place, has the best chance of qualifying for the European Cup again. Already at the beginning of March, the two board members Oliver Leki and Jochen Saier had extended their contracts until 2027.

“We’re really happy to be able to continue working in this very special constellation, both in terms of content and people,” said Saier: “The coaching team around Christian Streich works day after day with great attention to detail and with maximum commitment on the development of our team.”
