Schalke 04 waves money windfall because of Weston McKennie

FC Schalke 04 could benefit financially from the move of their ex-player Weston McKennie from Juventus to Leeds United.

The 24-year-old will initially join the Premier League club on loan until the end of the season, after which Leeds have the option to buy the US international.

As Juve announced, 1.25 million euros plus bonuses of 250,000 euros will initially be due as a rental fee. For the purchase option, Leeds would have to put 34.5 million euros on the table, with a further 4.5 million euros in bonus payments.

According to sports1 the deal could also pay off for Schalke. In the event of a permanent commitment in the summer, Schalke would be entitled to a transfer fee of one million euros plus training compensation.

McKennie moved from Dallas Academy to Schalke Knappenschmiede in 2017. In 2020 he left the Royal Blues and went first on loan and later permanently to Juventus Turin. In total, Schalke received a transfer fee of 25 million euros.
