Schalke coach Thomas Reis found time for even more important things in the middle of the Bundesliga relegation battle.
With his wife Carina, the 49-year-old grilled sausages and vegetables for the homeless in a self-paid Malteser aid campaign in Gelsenkirchen on Thursday evening.
For two and a half hours, Reis fed around 200 needy people. “I feel really good here in the city and I just want to give something back. Of course you earn more than decent money, so an action like this is just a matter of course,” he said.
On Saturday (3:30 p.m.), his team will be back to the sausage: Schalke are clear outsiders at record champions Bayern Munich.
