Soumaïla Coulibaly before moving to the Premier League

Soumaïla Coulibaly is drawn to the island – and BVB can look forward to a nice sum next summer.

Defender Soumaïla Coulibaly is about to be transferred from BVB to Burnley FC. This is reported by a transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. He writes that the young central defender will initially be loaned to the newly promoted Premier League for a year before an obligation to buy takes effect. This would be 15 million euros. A significant sum, especially considering Coulibaly joined Borussia Dortmund from PSG on a free transfer in 2021.

The 19-year-old has made two appearances for BVB professionals since moving to Germany. He played 44 minutes in the Bundesliga and 19 minutes in the Champions League.

Added to this are six games in the UEFA Youth League and 25 games for the Dortmund reserves in the 3rd division.

Coulibaly played for FC Montfermeil before moving to the PSG youth team in 2018. The said transfer to Borussia followed three years later. The 19-year-old is under contract there until 2026.

After Mats Hummels’ contract was extended, Coulibaly still has at least three well-known competitors in central defense in front of him: the veteran, Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle.

After winning the championship, Burnley is regrouping for the Premier League under coach Vincent Kompany and a few weeks ago signed Jordan Beyer from Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan for 15 million euros.
