Spectacular return perfect! Kruse leaves Union Berlin and moves to Wolfsburg

Max Kruse’s spectacular return campaign is perfect: the striker is leaving Union Berlin with immediate effect and moving to his former club VfL Wolfsburg.

Both clubs confirmed this on Sunday evening. According to VfL, Kruse should complete the sports medical examination on Monday and then sign a contract until 2023.

Kruse, whose contract with Union ends after this season, already played for Wolves in the 2015/16 season.

“I thank you all for your trust in me – and now I ask you for your understanding of my decision to accept an offer that is long-term and highly remunerated. This is about a club where I still have a chapter open , which I can now finish writing,” Kruse is quoted as saying in a Union statement. “No decision is easy and I know what to expect now – but it’s my decision.”

At the Lower Saxony, the ex-national player also meets coach Florian Kohfeldt again, under whom he already played at Werder Bremen.

Kruse had turned his back on Werder in 2019, but returned to the Bundesliga after just a year at Fenerbahce. Since then he has scored 19 goals in 45 competitive games for Union Berlin. The striker also previously played for FC St. Pauli, SC Freiburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

VfL Wolfsburg recently gave up two offensive players in Admir Mehmedi (Antalyaspor) and Daniel Ginczek (Fortuna Düsseldorf) in the current winter transfer period.
