Hellmann and Leki take over for the time being

Board spokesman Axel Hellmann will remain at Eintracht Frankfurt after the power struggle in the top management. According to the club, the 51-year-old informed the chairman of the supervisory board, Philip Holzer, of his decision on Tuesday morning.

Hellmann, currently part of an interim dual leadership at the German Football League (DFL), had previously been linked with a permanent move to the league association.

“For me, it’s crucial that we can continue to move a lot at Eintracht Frankfurt,” said Hellmann, whose contract in Main runs until 2027. In talks with the “key decision-makers” he “specified his ideas and it became clear that everyone wants to create the conditions for our competitiveness and a successful future together”.

For several weeks, the power struggle between the board of directors led by Hellmann and the supervisory board led by Holzer, who is also a shareholder in Hessen, had escalated. According to media reports, it was about a company valuation of Eintracht commissioned by the board of directors, which people on the supervisory board are said to have rated as too high. According to various media reports, Holzer is said to have offered his resignation in a conversation in March in order to convince Hellmann to stay.

Hellmann’s decision was “an important sign for the entire club, but also in the final spurt of the current round with regard to the new season,” said Holzer. It is “understandable that he has been thinking about his future in the past few weeks. In the open and good discussions that we have had in the past few weeks, we have found that different opinions could be cleared up and that there was a good basis for a continued successful cooperation.”
